2013 Wrap up

I love to look back over the past year at New Years and see all the blessings that have unfolded during that year. I can never just pick one highlight of each month so sorry there are multiple pictures for some months!

January- we started 2013 at the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl. It was so much fun and something we will always remember! We also went to Kauai with the Warrens!

February-we added sweet little Leo to our family! He makes us smile and laugh every day.

ImageMarch- Rachel got her Mission call to Spain! Mark and I celebrated our 24th birthdays and lots of other family birthdays.

ImageImageApril- we got to go to the temple with Rachel, it was a great experience. I love my family ๐Ÿ™‚

ImageMay- we got to meet our newest niece Coraline! Taylor turned sweet 16!

June- our family said goodbye to middle school and went to Courtney’s promotion.

ImageJuly- this was a busy month for our family. My mom, Rachel and me went to southern California for my cousin Natasha’s wedding. While we were there we hit up Disneyland. It was a blast! We then said goodbye to Rachel for 18 months and our family headed to Utah for a Barker family reunion. It was great to be with family and especially my 99 year old great-grandfather! While there I got to catch up with my favorite roommates and their husbands! It was definitely a highlight of the year.

ImageImageImageAugust- Mark and I celebrated our 3rd anniversary with a getaway to beautiful Jenner, CA. Mark is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I’m so blessed to share my life with this cute boy.

September- I went shooting with my little sister Courtney.

October- We were very fortunate to get to go to Hawaii for a 2nd time this year! This time we went to Oahu. I got to check paddle boarding off my bucket list, I loved it! We also threw a Murder Mystery Halloween party.

November- we celebrated my wonderful dad’s 50th birthday!

December- it has been a very busy month for us, per usual. We started the month off by going down to southern California for our niece Belle’s baptism. We obviously couldn’t pass up an opportunity to go Disneyland and see the Christmas Decorations. It was the BEST!

We also got to spend LOTS of time with family.

My dad took us to the Fight Hunger Bowl at AT&T Park to watch BYU & Washington State. We love going and especially love the perks of my dad’s job! Thanks Dad!

December was a tough month for our little kitty. He turned 1 this month! We had to take him to the vet a couple of times and also thought we were going to have to put him down a couple of time. It was emotionally exhausting but we are happy we get to have him longer. Hopefully 2014 is a little easier on him.

2013 was a good year, we were so blessed to have the opportunity to go to Hawaii twice, adopt Leo, send off the cutest little missionary, and spend lots of time with family and friends. I’m so grateful for everyone in my life. I’m excited to see what 2014 holds! Happy New Year!

the haps

Here’s what’s been going on lately:

My dad took us all (me, Mark, Taylor, Courtney and our mom) to the BYU vs. Stanford basketball game. Before the game we went to dinner at the Stanford shopping center where we spotted our first Christmas tree of the season! Of course we had to take some pictures in front of it!photo 1

I did a little crafting with my cute friend Steph. We painted a few pine cones, but mostly chatted, it was wonderful! (the pine cones don’t look so great in the picture but they are darling in person. I love them!)

And of course Mark cuddled with Leo. Doesn’t Leo look like he just loves it?! (Sorry instagram followers, I know you already get too much of Leo on there and now on my blog too. I just can’t help it!)photo 5

Also, earlier this year when Leo was a very mischievous kitten, he swatted my beloved Chi hair straightener off the counter and one of the plates broke off and was hanging by the wire! I could have died in that moment, for those of you who haven’t seen my hair dry naturally or with a blow dryer, I look like I have a lions mane, it’s out of control (i.e.- one time in college a huge group of us went to my grandma’s house in Draper for conference weekend. I fell asleep with my hair wet in a towel on my head. When I woke up in the morning my hair was pretty much an afro, *Melissa & Glenna-why didn’t we take a picture of it?!)ย  Anyways, after pulling myself together I grabbed my straightener and the gorilla glue and went to town. It worked, but just for a few months, yesterday my trusty companion officially died on me. So I had to run to Ulta after work to get a new one. It was an inner struggle for me. I don’t know why, it is the exact same brand, same color, same everything. But a part of me felt like my hair will never be in control again.

However, I am happy to say that after using my new straightener today, my hair looks the same. Life goes on. RIP trusty straightener that I’ve had since my senior year of high school. We’ve been through some good times and some bad times together, and definitely some bad hair colors.

rekindling the fire

I’ve been MIA from this blog lately, mostly in part because I have been unhappy with the look/feel of my blog. I don’t feel like it’s really portraying my style, whatever that is. But also because I have felt like I don’t have anything of much importance to talk about. My life is pretty ordinary and low key right now. Until I realized the other night that that is my life right now and although it may be mundane, it’s exactly what I need to write about during this stage ofย  life.

So I am currently working on my blog look and design and have rekindled my blogging passion. You will be seeing much more of me on here!

In the meantime, here is a little video of us taking Leo on a walk with our nieces. I sent it in to AFV, I’m just waiting for them to highlight it on their next animal episode. Enjoy!

our baby :)

Mark finally gave in and let me get a kitten! (mostly because he was annoyed with me bringing home strays and asking every day…and she was free!) We adopted her on April 26. She was super tiny when we got her, the runt of her litter. The people we got her from thought she was about 6 or 7 weeks old. They didn’t know if she was a girl or a boy…I did my research, thank you google, and found out she was a girl. We wanted to name her something from the Giants but buster posey doesn’t really fit for a girl. After a couple days of deliberating, we decided to name her Snookie!
She is so cute and makes us laugh every day. She’s already gotten so much bigger, maybe because we didn’t know how much to feed her and eventually saw the recommendations on the bag, lets just say we were feeding her about 4 times as much as we should.
It’s like having a baby, she cries when we put her to bed (in our closet), she cries in the morning and wakes us up. But despite the early mornings, we love her and are so happy to have her in our little family (you can ask Mark how he really feels.) Mark is her favorite, even though he throws her off the bed. Her favorite spot to be is on his shoulder, especially when he’s trying to do homework!
Here are some pictures of our baby Snooks!

Mark loves to make her sit like this, she doesn’t really like it though
So happy ๐Ÿ™‚
Don’t worry, she likes having her face smooshed in pictures, haha!
Our friends Adria and Brianne brought their kitten, Boss, over for a play date…Snookie beat him up! I think she is use to getting beat up by her brothers and sisters because she was the runt and finally she has someone smaller to pick on. Boss was a trouper and took it. Mark was proud of his little Snooks!

crazy cat lady

I’ll admit it, I am a crazy cat lady. But I am not the typical old lady that collects hundreds of cats, I just want one kitten! Is that so much to ask?
I drive Mark crazy because I often bring in strays and bathe them…
A couple weeks ago the sweetest cat followed me into our apartment when I was bringing my laundry in. He was so cute and I was bored. I had a couple hours before I had to go to work. So I was playing with this cat and totally loving it, but he smelled horrendous. I knew that Mark would be mad if our apartment smelled so I decided to give this cat a bath. As I was washing him I sang “Smelly Cat,” by Pheobe to keep him calm. He was so good in the bath, I only got one little tiny scratch! But then I tried drying him with my hair dryer and he wasn’t ok with that. He was still wet by the time I had to go to work, so of course I couldn’t put him back outside in the Rexburg winter, so I wrote Mark a note and told him he could let the cat out when he was dry.
Long story short, I don’t think Mark had the hart to put him outside so we decided we would keep him for the night and then take him to the animal shelter the next morning.
That night was brutal! We put my laundry hamper in the living room for him to sleep in, he loved it! All was going well until about 4:00 am when he came to our bedroom door and started meowing. I thought if I ignored him he would go away…but he didn’t. And Mark had to wake up in a couple hours to go to work. So I got up and took the cat outside to go to the bathroom, hoping that would do the trick. But it didn’t. Eventually we let him in our room. He jumped up on our bed and slept right inbetween mine and Marks’ heads!
